Beaver Run Church of the Brethren

Our History

The original name of the Beaver Run Church was Tunker, (German for Dunkard) Society of Hampshire county, Virginia, (Now Mineral county, West Virginia).  Brethren families were settled in the area  by the 1770's, however  it is generally accepted that Beaver Run was founded in the year of 1785.

The first services were held in private homes, many of which were built large with removable partitions for accommodating services.  The first church house was built in 1834 and stood on the exact spot where the present brick structure now stands and was made of hewn logs.

The year of 1876 found the members of the congregation anxious for a new building.  Consequently, the old log building was torn away to make ready for the present brick structure.

Beaver Run Church has inspired the growth of other Brethren churches in nearby communities, many of which still  attribute their legacy to their mother church.

The 1876 structure still stands in beauty with some remodeled features inside.  The people who worship here are kind, friendly, and their love for  one another overflows into the community and world.
